Mane Baby FAQs

What’s the Mane Baby difference?

We are hairdressers, so we understand that finding a product that seamlessly blends with your client’s natural hair, offers versatility, and all whilst maintaining a natural look can be a challenge when it comes to hair extensions.

Our luxurious wefts are formed with the latest weft technology, resulting in the flattest, lightest, comfortable and most discreet and wefts ever seen! They combine all the benefits of a hand tied weft with the versatility of a flat weft.

Mane Baby only uses human hair ethically sourced from donors worldwide. It is coloured using the most gentle lightening techniques to ensure the cuticle remains intact, meaning your hair will stay silky soft for months or even years to come.

Our experienced and passionate customer care team is available to answer any of your questions via email at hello@manebaby.com.au.

What is the difference between Mane Baby and other hair extensions?

One of the standout features of Mane Baby extensions is our seamless design.

Traditional hair extensions often have wefts that can be bulky and noticeable, leading to a less than-natural appearance.

Mane Baby extensions are specifically crafted to eliminate this issue. The flat and seamless design allows the extensions to lie flat against the scalp, creating a natural look that blends effortlessly with the client’s natural hair. This means they can style their hair in various ways, including up-dos or pony tails, without worrying about visible wefts.

Is Mane Baby hair double drawn?

Yes! All of our hair is double-drawn.

Each hair extension strand is carefully inspected for any short hairs, which are then removed. This process ensures the strands are consistently full from top to bottom, eliminating any thin, wispy ends. You might be surprised at how much this enhances the overall appearance.

Is Mane Baby hair straight, wavy, or curly?

Mane Baby hair features a natural European-style texture, often called ‘body wave. ’When air-dried, this means that the hair showcases a beautiful, loose, or romantic wave.

Conversely, blow-drying can achieve a straighter appearance. The subtle wave adds volume, making it suitable for various hair types and offering versatility; it holds curls exceptionally well and allows for straightforward, straight styling. The final effect is a natural, fluffy, lightweight texture that dries like natural hair, complete with a gentle wave.

What lengths and how many colours are available in the Mane Baby range?

The Mane Baby hybrid flat wefts are available in three lengths: 16 inches/40 cm, 20 inches/50 cm, and 22 inches/55 cm. All our hair is of the finest quality, with no cheap silicone coating concealing damaged hair structure underneath.

We offer 18 pre-coloured shades, including colours with pre-coloured roots, giving you various options to match and blend for the most natural-looking result.

How many extensions do I need for a full head?

We suggest applying 110 g for a full-head application of our hair in 20-22 inch length; however, for very thick or shorter, blunt hairstyles, we recommend using 165 g for a natural, seamless blend.

For a natural look and if you're primarily looking for volume, a ½ head (55 gm) of our wefts should be enough.

For a luxurious result with hair that is thick on the bottom or if you are wanting a long layered look - particularly with clients with shorter layers we recommend a head and a half (165 gm) or even a double head (220 gm)

Our extensions are available in 55g half-head allotments, allowing you to mix and match shades effortlessly for endless colour combinations. This flexibility means you can achieve a unique look by sandwiching and blending colours to suit your style.

How are the wefts applied and installed?

Mane Baby extensions are designed for a comfortable, damage-free installation that evenly distributes weight, reducing tension on the scalp.

With flat, non-itchy wefts at just 0.7mm thick, our extensions sit seamlessly and feel natural. The installation process uses a secure, supportive brace system with tiny silicone-lined aluminium microbeads and strong, thin nylon thread to keep the extensions securely in place without damaging your natural hair.

Our extensions are also highly customisable, with options to add between 1 and 4 rows based on each client’s needs—even allowing for smaller side pieces for a perfectly tailored look.

What type of thread and beads can I use for Mane Baby hair extensions?

To ensure a secure, long-lasting fit, we first create a supportive track using silicone-lined aluminium microbeads.

These beads are lined with silicone sleeve cushions, protecting your natural hair from damage while preventing bead slippage to provide added longevity.

Once the track is in place, our extensions are sewn in using a strong, durable nylon thread, which ensures the extensions stay secure through everyday wear, styling, and washing.

This combination of support and durability allows you to confidently enjoy your enhanced look, knowing your extensions are installed with integrity and care.

About the Hair

What does 100% human hair mean?

When "100% human hair" is used to describe hair extensions, the hair used in the extensions is entirely sourced from human donors, without any synthetic fibres mixed in.

The term signifies that the extensions are made from real, natural human hair, offering a more authentic look and feel than synthetic alternatives.

Human hair extensions can be treated like natural hair—they can be washed, styled, coloured, and heat-treated while maintaining their integrity.

The best-quality 100% human hair extensions typically have the cuticle intact and aligned in the same direction, which helps prevent tangling and matting and makes the extensions more durable and long-lasting.

These extensions blend seamlessly with the wearer's natural hair, offering more versatility and a more natural appearance.

Where does the hair come from?

Mane Baby Hair is sustainably and ethically sourced from rural communities, traded for fair compensation, and gathered by expert hair collectors with many years of experience in the industry.

People specifically choose to grow hair to sell as a commercial enterprise. They sell to hair merchants that collect the hair from various donors and grade it according to its quality. At Mane Baby, we work closely with our suppliers to ensure you receive a consistent and high-quality product.

Is the hair ethically sourced?

Mane Baby only uses human hair, which is ethically sourced from donors around the world.

Ethically sourced hair is hair that has been willingly donated by an individual who has given their consent and been paid a fair and equitable wage for their donation. It’s important to us that Mane Baby hair has been obtained ethically and that our donors are fairly compensated and well-treated.

We have a well-established, long-term relationship with our international manufacturing team. Within this team, we also have our trusted hair buyers who select 100% human hair of the highest quality to ensure your satisfaction.

Does the hair come pre-coloured?

Our hair is collected from donors in its original virgin-like state. It is then taken to our factory, where each pony is sorted and then pre-coloured to match our colour ring to allow ease when we are applying it to clients.

The virgin hair is lightened gradually over 7–14 days, which maintains its integrity and ensures that your new extensions are long-lasting and silky. It is then toned and coloured back to match the various colours on the Mane Baby colour ring using the highest-quality Korean dyes.

How often do you need to move up the extensions?

Lifting your wefts regularly safeguards your natural hair from damage so it continues to thrive. The longer you leave it, the less hair supports the extensions' weight.

For best results, we recommend having your wefts lifted every 6 weeks.

For those with finer hair textures or hair that might be thinning due to hormonal changes, we recommend visiting your extension specialist roughly every 4 weeks.

Can I swim with my hair extensions?

We recommend keeping your hair tied up and out of the water when swimming.

If you choose to swim with your extensions, please be aware that this is at your own risk.

If your natural hair becomes dry or damaged, it can eventually repair itself; however, this is not the case with extensions, and extra care is needed.

Below are some preventative measures you can take to minimise damage.

If you decide to swim with your extensions:

  • Rinse your hair with clean water from a shower before swimming; this will saturate the strands of hair so they soak up fewer minerals.
  • To minimise tangling while swimming, coat your hair with a leave-in conditioner or treatment, braid it, or place it in a secure bun.
  • If your hair does become tangled, apply a treatment and use a wet brush to brush out all knots very gently.

We do not recommend swimming in chlorine, as this will damage and discolour your extensions.

If you do not follow your stylist's professional advice, you may need to purchase new extensions, as this will shorten their lifespan.

*Mane Baby Hair is not liable for any adverse effects on your hair or extensions that may result from not following the recommended aftercare instructions.
