The short answer

- How long between maintenance appointments — usually every 6 to 8 weeks
Why you need maintenance every 6 to 8 weeks
Your natural hair keeps growing, so the extensions gradually sit further from your scalp. At each maintenance appointment, your stylist moves the wefts back up. Quality hair is reused, so you're not buying new hair every time.
Skipping maintenance lets shed hair build up near the attachment and is a common cause of tangling at the root.
What affects how long extensions last
1. Hair quality
100% human hair with the cuticle intact and aligned lasts far longer than processed hair with the cuticle stripped. Some hair is coated in silicone to feel silky in the pack — once that washes off, it tangles and dries out quickly.
2. Colour
Lighter blonde shades generally have a shorter lifespan than darker shades, because of the lightening involved. They also need more care with heat, sun and products.
3. Aftercare

4. Heat
Frequent heat styling wears hair out. Keep heat under 170°C and limit it where you can.
5. Environment
Salt water, chlorine, hard water and UV exposure can dry out and discolour extensions. Avoid salt water and rinse after swimming.
6. Your brush

- The ends are persistently dry or frizzy even after treatments
- The hair tangles no matter how carefully you brush
- The hair has thinned noticeably
- The colour has faded or changed and no longer blends
